Thunderbird on another computer and netmail.verizon.net accept password and login, but on my desktop machine can not create an account.
I have a Verizon.net account which I access on several computers, usually with Thunderbird or iPod's mail My username and password work with all of them except for my desktop machine. I can still access netmail.verizon.net on my desktop machine with the username and password, on the desktop Thunderbird cannot set up the account with the logon information. Are there files in my Profile which might block this until deleted? Thanks.

Are you running the new account wizard? Does Thunderbird automatically detect the server settings for Verizon?
It does detect the pop and smtp settings
What happens next?
After it finds the pop and smtp settings and tries to login it waits for a bit and reports "Configuration could not be verified -- is the username or password wrong?" It is the same username and password I used to open netmail where I'm responding to you.
It then stalls without asking or suggesting further steps. I was hoping to avoid deleting the profile and starting fresh.
Are you using the correct format for your user id? Does it require the full email address or only the part before the @ sign? Check with Verizon what's needed.
The account setup only has user name and email address, as well as password.
Have you been notified recently that your Verizon account now uses AOL servers? Were you requested to adjust your server settings?
Thanks very much for hanging in with me and my problem. I have not received changes from Verizon for a year or more. The setup wizard o the Verizon site doesn't include Thunderbird among the choices. There are various dates of MS Outlook, Outlook Express,, Mac OS X,Apple Mail, and Android phones and IPad or iPhone/iPod Touch. Do we pretend to be one of them?
