Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Cannot receive mail. Inbox is access-denied.

(Windows 10)

Trying to read emails gives: "Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox."

Compaction is set to automatic. Manual compaction does not correct the problem. Attempts to access the Inbox via File Explorer yields "Access denied", so I cannot rename the dysfunctional Inbox and start a new one.

I depend upon this email software. If this cannot be fixed immediately and prevented from happening again, I must abandon Thunderbird.

Anyone have a solution?

You need to find out what's blocking access to your Inbox file. If you're denied access using File Explorer, then how do you expect Thunderbird to write to the Inbox file?

So you've been given instructions already. Did you follow them? Hint: Anti-virus software often causes problems with Thunderbird.

I'm not sure why you bring this up. It's entirely up to you which email client you use.

Process Explorer finds no programs with a lock on the inbox file.

?! How do I know that a rogue process in Thunderbird has not blocked access to that file?

> So you've been given instructions already. Did you follow them?

?! You mean the instructions in the error message? See above.

ProcExp found no program controlling the file.. Turning off BitDefender does not free access to the Inbox file.

A strane remark on such a forum. If TB folks see these msgs, it might encourage them to fix the TB problems that force such decisions.

> It's entirely up to you which email client you use.

So it is.

And it's entirely up to you whether you're helpful.

Thunderbird is not a commercial product. Most of the people answering questions here are volunteers and users like you dedicating their time to help others. They are not paid employees. And they do not need to be 'motivated' by users who think it's a good idea to 'threaten' using another email client.

And it's entirely up to you whether you're helpful.

Indeed. Good luck.
