I want to remove yahoo permanently

I have gone through the process of removing Yahoo from the list of search engines several times. The ONLY search engine I have listed is Google. Yet every time I do a search, it comes up in Yahoo. I do not want Yahoo search at all.

I've searched the web extensively but can't find anything that works. Yes, I know that Mozilla wants me to use Yahoo but I don't like it. I tried to post a picture of my search engine choices but the picture wouldn't upload.

How can I stop it from coming up when it isn't even listed in the search engines area any more? I have automatic updates turned on, so my FireFox should be current. Please help!

Thanks,

Debra King Venice, FL

Hi, one of your addons may be doing this so try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

If Safe Mode doesn't help, look in the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A) > Plugins for anything 'Yahoo' and remove/disable it.

It's also possible that some malware is changing it; you can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
