Firefox Quantum 57 removes .mp4 extentions when downloading a video

Every since Firefox released their Quantum 57 web browser every time I download a video with a .mp4 extention and rename it before I download the file it removes the extention.

For example I download a file "example.mp4" when it downloads it is just "example" and I have to go rename it example.mp4 after the download finishes in order for it to work so its like I am renaming it twice and this is very annoying.

It only does this in Firefox Quantum 57 and not any other browser. When I try it in Firefox 56 it works fine so there is something in this new browser that is causing this problem.

Can someone please help me with this.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Yes the problem is still there. Thanks for giving me something to try.

I noticed if I leave the default file name it comes up with and click download it works but as soon as I change the file name it removes the extention.

So I don't know what Firefox did with their new version but its is annoying seeing is how you have to rename things when downloading because most sites give you a generic name.

That would assume that you remove the file extension when you rename the file and you need to make sure not to touch it.

The file extension is not in the name of the file when you download so their is no way to delete it.

Like I mentioned everything works fine in the old version of Firefox and all the other browser the problem only started with this new version.

Next time you rename, include the extension.

Yeah I am doing that as a work around when I remember but it is annoying to keep remembering to do that. I am looking for a fix for this problem as it is only in the new Firefox.
