I have used Firefox happily for some years (nb I am not a techie!) suddenly I have a strange new screen when I use Google search. I now find that I cannot access some sites is the connection times out during he search. It seems to have suddenly use something called Ask. I thought to delete and reinstall Firefox would help but am unsure how to delete it! Can someone help please?

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; (<Control> [Mac=<Command>] <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove “ ask “ Anything.

Also remove SafeSearch, SearchAssist Incognito, FileConverter Addon, SearchLock, DiscreteSearch, WebSearch, Findwide Search Engine

Now do the same in the computer’s Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the Applications folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

The problem I am trying to solve is that using Firefox to search for 1 website specifically (the UK National Lottery) the search times out every time. Until I mistakenly installed the ask addon the search had worked faultlessly for about 5 years. I have just checked and exactly the same problem occurs using Safari. The lottery support people say they have problems with anything except Chrome! I will get back to them again as I am convinced that the application is at fault. Thanks for what you have done.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Problem now referred to the website owner.

Thanks again
