Every time I click on an email attachment, the attachment saves on my desktop. How do I stop this from happening?

I work on a MacBookPro. When I open an attachment from an email, it automatically saves to my desktop. I would like to stop this.

In Windows you go to .. Options-Attachments-Incoming

It might be Preferences instead of Options on your Mac. If not, I guess you can just look through the menus for the Attachments page. Who knows, you might find something else helpful in the menus.
