Why do my pdf options keep changing in Firefox?

My setting to have all pdf's opened with Adobe Reader keeps changing. It keeps going back to "save file." I don't know if Adobe updates break this feature but it's a real annoyance. I usually don't notice until I've clicked a pdf link - nothing happens - I click it a few more times and then find a bunch of copies on my desktop. I'm on a network at work and don't have any pdf plugins that would interfere.

Did you change the file association in the O/S. If it doesn't change there it will always go back to what it was default before.

No, the file associations in the OS have always been correct.

That's not what I was asking. Did you go and check if that was the case.
