When moving a large number of emails they disappear

IMAP - no limits or quota - have attempted repair folder with no luck. I manually select a number of emails (for example Jan-Jun 2019) and right click to move them to my own 'Archives->2019' folder. The emails are removed from the inbox but eventually they are not accessible in the new folder. This has happened a number of times when moving a large number of mails. There are only 5 emails in the 2019 folder for example and over 5000 were moved. The mails are not visible when logging onto the webmail client either after this happens. If anyone has any idea, that would be of great help! I can't figure this out.

re :to my own 'Archives->2019' folder.

I presume you mean you are moving them from an imap account folder to the 'Local Folders' mail account > 'Archives->2019' folder.

re:The mails are not visible when logging onto the webmail client either after this happens. That is because when you move an email out of the imap account then it is moved off the server. So at least that part is as expected.

Confirm settings for the imap mail account. Do you have the Account Settings set to download full copies of emails?

  • Right click on imap mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
  • Select 'synchronisation & storage'

Message Synchronising:

  • Is this checkbox selected: 'Keep messages in all folders for this account on this computer' ?
  • Click on 'Advanced' button
  • Are all folders selected ?

Under 'Disc Space' section:

  • Is this selected 'Synchronise all messages locally regardless of age' ?
  • If no what is selected?

Before moving emails, did you ensure you had a current full copy of all emails stored in the imap folder ?

  • Menu icon > File > Offline > 'Download/Synch now'

Whilst 'moving' a load of emails (over 5000 were moved) did you choose to go into 'Offline' mode first to stop your imap folders sychronising whilst this process took place?

Do you have an Anti-Virus product which scans opened thunderbird files and folders and/or scans incoming outgoing mail ?

Do you have a backup of profile ?

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. I have replied below to explain the issue more:

No, actually it is to an imap folder named archives. I still want to keep all of my mails on the server re:The mails are not visible when logging onto the webmail client either after this happens. So it is an imap folder so not supposed to go off the server Confirm settings for the imap mail account. Do you have the Account Settings set to download full copies of emails?

Yes all are selected and none to be deleted Under 'Disc Space' section:

No I did not. If I do the above am I at risk of losing the mails completely? The reason I ask is that once when the pc was offline from the network all of the archived mails were suddenly visible. I was never able to replicate this and find the mails again. Whilst 'moving' a load of emails (over 5000 were moved) did you choose to go into 'Offline' mode first to stop your imap folders sychronising whilst this process took place? No, but this makes sense and I will always do this in future. I was not aware of this option Do you have an Anti-Virus product which scans opened thunderbird files and folders and/or scans incoming outgoing mail ? No Do you have a backup of profile ?

No, I rely on the imap server
