Firefox on Amazon Fire HD 8 crashes

Firefox 68.11 runs on my new Amazon Fire HD just fine, but within a couple of days it gets upgraded to the current version and never runs again. There seems to be no way to prevent the upgrade. The details: The latest android version runs, but any attempt to access the internet. If I could stop the automatic updating, I could run firefox. If I can't stop the automatic update then Firefox self-destructs and I will have to move Chrome. I've been a user since Mosaic and Netscape, and I don't want to be forced to change.

This didn't solve my problem. I did NOT want to know when the bug would be fixed, but how to stop automatic updates so my working older version was not continually replaced by a broken version. Even Windows allows updates to be suspended.

So I finally found out elsewhere that updates can be turned off in the Android Play Store for all apps or a specific app. I turned off updates for Firefox and no updates yesterday or today, even though the Play Store reports that an update is available.

Problem solved until Firefox is fixed.

Hi

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear that this is happening.

This is an issue that we are aware of and are working to resolve. You can follow progress on this at:

https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/16775

Correction: Any attempt to access the internet, crashes Firefox with a error message.

Hi

Yes, that issue being resolved will help with what you are seeing.

This doesn't solve my problem. Telling me basically to stop using Firefox until it gets fixed, is not a solution to anything. I can run an older version of Firefox, but within a day or so the older version is automatically replaced by the newest one Which Does Not Work.

Tell me how to stop the automatic updates. That would be a temporary solution and that would be helpful.

We are working on a solution to this issue that we hope to make available in an update very soon.
