Best practice: Bookmarks Menu vs Bookmarks Toolbar for organizing a canonical folder tree in Bookmarks Library?

I would like to maintain my bookmarks in a _single tree_ of folders for use in Firefox and across browsers (as Xmarks used to afford).

When organizing a large collection using Bookmarks Library is it better to create the single tree of folders under "Bookmarks Menu" or under "Bookmarks Toolbar"?

Is there a built-in hierarchy between Bookmarks Menu and Bookmarks Toolbar to avoid duplication?

Is "Other Bookmarks" folder also part of this hierarchy, and if so, where does it sit?

(I am a recovering Xmarks user with a very large curated collection, and mainly have been using the Bookmarks Toolbar when browsing in Firefox).

I have reviewed the help material on Bookmarks but unable to resolve these questions. I would be interested in connecting with people working on development in this regard.

Thank you, Community!

hello agdev,

While bookmarks are helpful, they can prove to be hair yanking experiences.

And while i think i understand your question(s), it is unclear of the goal you want to achieve.

What i can offer is a fundamental tip that could help you organize your bookmarks and will allow you to play around with the bookmark subsystem in FF until you find the right methodology for your needs.

So if you go to the Bookmarks Menu and select Show All, you will have the option to export all the bookmarks as a html page and a file to save on your disk.

By making a copy of your bookmarks to a file, you then can play around with the book marks toolbar and delete, change, move them around in FF.

And if you mess up, you can import the bookmarks back into FF from the file you created.

Further, you can manipulate the contents of your file for better organization and importing them back into FF.

Also, you might prefer a lighter view of bookmarks in FF by importing the most important ones into FF and saving the rarely used ones inside the html file for future reference.

Lastly, the bookmarks file you created can be used from the desktop and by other browsers too.

Having the options above, provides you with the ability to customize the system to your exact needs.
