Thunderbird startup is processing like crazy and consuming huge amounts of RAM

I have been using Thunderbird on my computer (and predecessors) for many years. I restarted my Windows 10 system this morning and Thunderbird has gone crazy. By crazy, I mean: - It is running continuously at 16+% CPU continuously. - The application deploys the UI but becomes barely responsive. It seems like it is an infinite wait while processing something. - The RAM memory usage just keeps going higher and higher, consuming many gigabytes of memory and going up to 80-90% of my 32 GB of memory.

I've tried restarting TB many times and did a complete shut down of my computer and cold reboot.

It seems like it may be doing some kind of repair or re-indexing procedure. But it looks like that will take infinite time and memory.

Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

CT

Wayne, Thanks for the response. I checked my Extensions and found only one: "Provider for Google Calendar" I disabled that and restarted TB without Safe Mode. Everything came up and is working perfectly. I had been trying to sync with the Google calendar recently, but it was not working properly prior to this interruption. So this put the final nail in the Google calendar sync coffin. Thanks for your help. Case closed! Thank you.

Update: I am able to start up in "Safe/Troubleshooting mode" and handle emails. But switching to regular mode goes right back to the bad behavior. CT

What add-ons do you have installed? Tools > Add-ons > Extensions

Fantastic. That addon is no longer need for normal calendar function. AIUI it's remaining value is to be able to sync Google Tasks.
