When are touchscreen gesture navigations going to be supported?

In Chromium you can go a page backward or forward by swiping one finger to the left or right. This works really well. I have been missing this feature in Firefox for years now. Without it navigation in the browser is tedious on Linux tablets or phones.

Is something similar ever going to be implemented?

Two-finger swipe navigation on Linux requires native Wayland (MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1) or MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 for X11. Also make sure widget.disable-swipe-tracker is false in about:config.

This only enables scrolling and the right-click menu on holding the one-finger touch. I am talking about page back and page forward navigation, which only exists for touchpads atm.

Any news on this? I really don't understand why there is not support for this. Page navigation is so central to the browsing experience.
