On several websites, when I click on a page that is a pdf document nothing downloads I have Adobe Acrobat Reader 9. What is wrong?

When I click on the link I get a blank screen that has a header adobe and then a small ok icon in it. If I click the ok icon I get nothing. I'm using windows 7 operating system.
