UPDATED VER. 3.6.6 AND SINCE THAN UNABLE TO LOAD ANY INTERNET PAGES--RECEIVE TIMEUOT MESSAGE- HAVE CHECKED FIREWALL, ANTIVIRUS NO PROBLEMS THERE. CHECKED INTERNET SETTINGS ALL OK. AM USING WINDOWS XP. PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS ON ONE ACCOUNT ON COMPUTER--SECONDARY ACCOUNT RUNS FINE WITH UPDATE.

Firefox 3.6.6 = a new preference was added to the Connection Settings proxy preferences in Tools > Options > Advanced >> Network tab - Connection = Settings = Use system proxy settings

The default setting is for Use system proxy settings,

Select No proxy and restart Firefox.

See if this is your problem.

Firefox 3.6.6 = a new preference was added to the Connection Settings proxy preferences in Tools > Options > Advanced >> Network tab - Connection = Settings = Use system proxy settings

The default setting is for Use system proxy settings,

Select No proxy and restart Firefox.

Not sure how to reply directly, but thanks to the ed-meister your solution worked and firefox is back up and running again.
