when setting up on line banking, website says it does not support firefox version I have and onlooking further I find they only support version 3.0, impression is given that things could go wrong security wise if using Higher version than this. I can get no sense from the bank as to why they will not support current version.

Well, Firefox 3.0 has been discontinued and is no longer supported. On top of this, it has known unpatched bugs and security problems. So it's a bad move for a bank site to support it at all, let alone to not support the current versions.

You should contact the bank in question and complain. Unfortunately, there's nothing that the user can do in these cases.

Change banks. I haven't run into this problem in a long, long time, but when it happened to me I found another bank and never looked back.

If a business wont support it's customers, the customers shouldn't support the business.

You can try to spoof the user agent.

Maybe even this is sufficient (only change the general.useragent.extra.firefox part)
