On my 1st visit to a certain website, Firefox _very briefly_ asked whether to remember my username and password. I was too slow: the dialog bar disappeared and now, I cannot find where to enter that logon info for my daily returns to that site.

On only the very first visit to a website, Firefox _very briefly_ shows a "Do you want Firefox to remember this password?" dialog bar at top right of screen.

The first time that I used Firefox to access this particular, and very often visited site, I missed that dialog bar. It disappeared before I had a chance to mark any one of the three boxes and now, I must enter my log-in information anew at every log-on to that site.

There _must_ be a way to get Firefox to give me a second chance for entering this info, but I cannot find how.

Can someone please help?

You can try to clear the cookies from that website.

Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Your above posted system details show two Shockwave Flash plugins and two Shockwave for Director, the second one of both being an old 8.0 version. You should remove both old versions and update Shockwave for Director to the latest version.

  • Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82
  • Shockwave Flash 8.0 r22
  • Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 11.0
  • Macromedia Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 8.0

You can find the old Flash plugin file NPSWF32.DLL in the plugins folder within the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\) and remove that file.
Also remove the flashplayer.xpt file in the components folder.

You also have an outdated Java plugin:

  • Java Plug-in 1.5.0_03 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper)

Update the Java plugin to the latest version.

After first closing the site's browser window, I cleared the cookies with no problem.

Next, I opened up the page that is causing my problem. The Microsoft Security window opened up as it should and it was blank.

The option of whether I was using a public or a private computer was blinking on 'public' as it should and I changed that to 'private'.

The lines for 'Domain/Username' and 'Password" were blank, as they should be at this time.

I entered whatever I had to on these two lines, then clicked on "log In". At no time, however, did the Firefox toolbar at top of screen (picture file attached) appear and ask whether to remember that password. Yes, the page now opened - and we are back to Square One.

I am aware that when entering the URL in the address box, a dropdown box opens and contains quite a few URLs identical to the one I am entering just now, or at least connected to pages of the same site.

I am wondering whether that is what's messing me up? But how can I clear these entries of "websites visited in the past from Firefox's memory?

OK, I'm making my way, but it seems to not correct the problem in the least ;-(

In addition to the 3 cookies for the site in question, I have now also cleared _all_ items from Recent History as follows: 1) Browsing and Download History 2) Cache 3) Active Logins

When I went to enter the site's address anew, the Microsoft Security page opened up as I knew it would. All three points where info had to be entered were blank as they have to be on a first access to the site. However, after entering the required information, the page I was going to visit opened up normally, just as it should but at no time at all during this short process was I queried by Firefox in any way, shape or form whether I wanted Firefox to save this password.

If you, cor-el, cannot help me overcome this problem which, by now, looks very much like a flaw in Firefox, isn't there anyone out there who has experienced, and solved, a problem identical to what I have happening here?

Would greatly appreciate whatever help there might be, even if it's only a "suggestion for things to try".
