Probably the first thing to do would be to put things back where you can work with them and recognize what you are working with. It is possible, though not likely, that new arrangement is so disorienting that you are hitting "Enter" instead of letting the AwesomeBar kick in. So perhaps you have modified your history or not recording your history such as in Private Browsing, or are removing your browsing history when you close Firefox.
