I cannot get to a website by entering the URL into the Navigation Toolbar

If I type a URL into the Navigation Toolbar and either hit enter or click on the arrow, nothing happens. In other words, I cannot get to any site using the Navigation Toolbar. If the page is already bookmarked or I click on a link from another page, everything works fine. But if I want to get to a new URL, entering it into the Navigation Bar does not work.

Please check for the problem in safe mode. If it works there, see troubleshooting extensions and themes.

Thanks for your quick response. I tried using Firefox in safe mode, but the navigation toolbar still did not work.

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

I resolved the issue by uninstalling Firefox 4.0.1 and installing Firefox 3.6.3. Not an elegant solution, but it is working fine now.

Just to let you know that a few days later I "updated" to Firefox 4.0.1 and the navigation toolbar works fine. And today I updated to 5.0 and everything is working fine. 5.0 seems to be noticeably quicker and smoother than 4.0.1.
