add on bar just sitting at the bottom in grey and will not display any add-ons it is turned on, even the (a better add-on bar) will not display.
My add-on bar is grey with a small x in the left corner, I have gone to view , tool bars and made sure it was on, as a result all the add-ons I have can't be viewed, I have even tried to use the (better add-on bar) plugin but it also can't be found, and these add-ons are not in the customize tool bar drag and drop box.

Do the addons you are using have any provision for putting icons on the bar (or on the status bar, which is where they used to go)? Which extensions are you using?
Search Highlighter was located in the box you get when you right click on the open area on the menu bar then the box open and I dragged off the icon and it sits next to the word Help at the top of the menu bar. All the other add ons I downloaded did not show up in that same box and did not display anywhere on Firefox, other than RoboForm see screen shot. I have a grey bar on the bottom but I can't get any icons to display there.
Not all extensions create buttons. Check the preference settings in the extensions from the addons window. Are you using Status-4-evar? The word "Done" in the left end of the bar is something I have not seen since the status bar was eliminated in favour of the addons bar.
Yes I do have Status-4-evar with that removed the bar is totally grey.
Can you drag items on the Add-ons bar via Customize?
- Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout
- View > Toolbars > Customize
You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.
I may be able to but I downloaded 4 or 5 plugins and only Searchtermhightler and Status4 showed up, all the others are no where to be found. But I just dragged the cut icon and it is there. So I guess the new problem is how to get the plug-ins into the customize toolbar box.
Be aware that not all extensions place an icon on a toolbar or the Add-ons bar in particular.

You should be able to drag the Searchtermhighlighter icon from the menu bar to the Add-ons bar if you want it to appear there when the customize window is open.
You can customize the Status-4-Evar extension via its options button on the about:addons page (Firefox > Add-ons)
- Status-4-Evar: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
Here is another screenshot you can see I downloaded more plugins but they do not show up anywhere.
I'm not seeing the Navigation Toolbar in that screenshot.
Did you hide that toolbar?
- Firefox > Options
- View > Toolbars
Note that not all extension add a button to a toolbar.
Some add items to one of the menus on the menu bar or the Firefox menu button or add an entry to the right-click context menu.
Yes see screen shot. Give me the name of some plugins that would land into the customize box so I can test it.
Yes, now I see that toolbar.
I see that you hidden the Roboform toolbar or were you able to move items to the Navigation Toolbar?
The Autofill Forms extension also should have a (Pencil shaped) toolbar button on the Navigation Toolbar according to the screenshot.
Yes Auto fill forms in on the navigation toolbar, it's behind the drop down menu. And I just hid the roboform tool bar.
