Clara search changed my first page and when I go to Options I cannot restore Mozilla Firefox homepage. Can I do something about that?
I have downloaded a program which then installed in my computer the "Clara search engine". Since then every time I run Firefox, or any other browser, "clara search" or "searchfunmoods"(?) always appear as the first page. I have uninstalled the clara engine, I have tried to change the first page through Options, I have even uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but nothing changed. The first page stays always the same (clara search or searchfunmoods)
I want to avoid formatting my hard disk. How can i fix this problem?

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Thank you for your answer! Well I did what you wrote but the second (not the first!) time I ran Firefox claro-search appeared once again as my first page. (http://www.claro-search.com/?affID=116690&tt=4612_1&babsrc=HP_ss&mntrId=d6417983000000000000001e8cbe0bb9)
Since then every time I run Firefox claro-search appears... Anyway thanks a lot for the suggestion!
Please rename the user.js and prefs.js files to user.js.old and prefs.js.old as outlined in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Resetting_preferences#Resetting_certain_preferences_when_a_user.js_file_exists
Hi,
It looks like Claro-search is a piece of malware, so you will have to use an antivirus/anti-malware program to get rid of it. Uninstalling it alone probably won't be enough, as you've found. I find Malwarebytes - MalwareBytes
very useful for these sorts of infections and it's free.
Tylerdowner I found these files and I changed their name to ".old" but the problem still exists. Every time I run Firefox these files are re-created. I think kat_1 is right but I have Avast antivirus and I used also the Malwarebytes. Nothing change.
If it is malware it resists...
