I can neither create or delete bookmarks using the "star", instead bookmarks are automatically created for every webpage I visit every time I visit it. I have been able to delete bookmarks automatically created using the right click pop up menu but even this only works on some bookmarks and often the deleted bookmark is something other than the one hilighted. This situation makes using Firefox on a daily basis impossible as I spend more time deleting webpages that finding them.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there. You may want to check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read on every start of Firefox and preferences set via this file will be set to the value specified in user.js on every start of Firefox and thus can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
