I know how to download the mail onto both machines, I am looking to be able to have the sent mail shared as well as custom folders on both computers.

You use IMAP email instead of POP. Some providers only offer POP so you would have to check with your provider.

And this will share the folders, templates, sent mail, etc? I already get the mail on both machines, but it's not a sync, just both machines download the new mail.

Not sure about templates but folders yes. IMAP is server based. Your folders and messages are on the providers server. You just view them remotely from your various device so all of them are looking at the same thing.
