Clicking not junk in email message doesn't convert it to non-junk status.

If I click "not junk" on a message marked junk in a message pane in my main inbox window, it converts the message to "not junk". But if I click "not junk" when I'm in the message in an existing message window, the message is not converted to "not junk". This feature does appear to work when the message is opened in a new tab.

Works perfectly for me using the Not Junk button, the shortcut of Shift+J or using Message-Mark As-Not Junk on the menu bar when I am viewing the message in a tab.

I would restart with add ons disabled to see if you have a problem add on.

You can do this from the Help menu.

As I noted, "not junk" does work when I'm in a tab but I do not like to use tabs as I cannot reduce the size of the open message but leave it open when I go back to my inbox. I have also disabled addons and this does not resolve the problem.

I got you. When I change my options to open in an Existing window the none of the Not Junk options remove the Junk warning on that screen. If I click not junk and then close that window and go back to the Inbox view the Junk icon is gone. So the Not Junk button is working just not removing the Junk banner on the open window. I never use the option to open in windows but it seems to changing the actual message state but the alert on the window still shows that Thunderbird thinks it is Junk. I guess the state in the Inbox is what really matters.

Right but the reason that this is a bug :-( in my opinion is that when I click not junk on an open message in its own window is that I want to see all the images that are grayed out because Thunderbird thinks it's junk. So, I can click "not junk" close the window and reopen but that is added steps. Thanks very much for your help Airmail :-) You confirmed for me that this is not a configuration issue.

re: I want to see all the images that are grayed out

Ok, i get it, Because it is junk there is no option to allow remote content in that message. so you click on 'Not junk' but nothing happens in that window.

however, it is marked as not junk in the email list, which you would need to reopen.

I can explain why. When you use 'open inexisting window', it has opened that email from the Junk folder' when you selected 'not Junk', the email is moved to another folder eg; Inbox. So, the window you have open, is no longer linked to the original place it was opened from. so it cannot simply update. By selecting 'Not Junk' you have moved the location of the email. There is an option to auto close any window where the email is moved or deleted. Tools > Options > Advanced > Reading & display select 'Close message window/tab on move or delete' click on OK

OK this stops you having to close it - saving you one process, but it still requires you open another assuming you want to open in another window.

I do not use opening in windows. I only use opening in a new tab IF the email is lengthy and makes it a bit easier to read. It is usual for me to use the Message Pane as it is much quicker. however, if I view an email in Junk folder and select 'not Junk' it still moves to another fodler which I have to select in order to see that email. You cannot view an email in a fodler you have not selected.

So this is not a bug. You cannot view emails in folder A if you are looking in folder B.

From same opened email in window : You can use eg: Go > Next to read another email in the same folder. you can move up and down the list in that same folder.

After some testing, where I opened an email in a new windiow: What does not work is using Go > Folder > Select mail account and folder regardless of whether you marked or moved anything. This would never be possible as you are open in a specific folder with the ability to tab up and down the email list of that folder.

I'm surprised this option is not greyed out to indicate it cannot work. So I see this as a bug - the option to GO > folder should be greyed out when an email is opened in a new window. OR it should open the folder focusing on the newest email, allowing the function of GO > Next > Message. AS this works currently, it is not correct. I'll report this as a bug.

I disagree that this is not a bug. When you click "not junk", the message should re-open with the images shown. I understand your explanation but it still is a bug as clicking "not junk" does not result in the expected reaction by Thunderbird.

The email you selected to mark as not junk is marked as not junk and moved out of Junk to Inbox. This action works perfectly ok. You would see it in the main user interface. You would also see that you are still selected to view emails in the Junk folder. That's why Go > Next > Message works - to see another message in the Junk folder and not in the Inbox.

If you had made sure the option to close opened windows on move was selected, you would realise this because the window would close automatically. If you do not select that option it is your choice.

If the email is already in Inbox, but marked as Junk in the Inbox and you select to mark it as not Junk, you do not need to close anything. But you do need to refresh by selecting eg: Go > Next then Go > Back to get a current view. Like an IMAP account synchronising folders to get a current view, not an out dated view.

As explained, if email is moved then there is no focus on that email in the current folder which you are currently viewing in. This is exactly the same for any email regardless of whether you view it via message pane or tab or window. When you select a folder in the FodlerPane then you can select and view any email in that folder and only in that folder.

You cannot see emails kept in other folders which you have not selected to view.

It's a bit like saying I'm in the Inbox and selected to right click and move an email to a specific folder, then wondering why you cannot see it in the current Inbox folder. It's because you are not looking at where it went because you have not selected that folder, you are still looking at the Inbox and it's not there, so will not see the updated view.

You are expecting that whenever you move any email even deleted ones, no matter what viewing method you want to use, you are instantly moved to see and focus on that email no matter where it went jumping you out of the Inbox to the deleted or junk folder or any folder.

Senario: I delete or move tens of emails every day, why on earth do I want to read, delete or move, auto jump to the deleted or newly moved email folder everytime and then need to reselect the Inbox everytime just to read the next new incoming message.

I do not know how else to explain it to you.

What is wrong is that you cannot easily move to focus on another folder displaying the newest email in that fodlers list in a an exisitng opened window when there is an expected functionality apparently available in the Menu Bar via GO > Folder.

re ;When you click "not junk", the message should re-open with the images shown. Stating something is not junk has nothing to do with remote content. But you cannot allow Remote Content if selected as Junk, hence why you want to make it not junk. Stating something is not junk is a mark and move operation.

If this is a special email address you know is good - you must know it is good if you want o allow remote content - then put it in your address book and set up your Junk controls to recognise that address book as a whitelist. then the email will not get marked as Junk in the first place, saving you from all this hassel.
