Firefox is very slow after the last update; as I 'm typing the letters in this note now, letters appear very slow on my screen, scrolling is just as slow and very irritating with f.i. using gmail or any website, changing a screen takes ages. I've tried every suggestion given by the supportcenter. Uninstalled adobe flashplayer, refreshed firefox, uninstalled and re-installed firefox several times without having any positive results.

Who can help me?

Hi helpers,

A happy man speaks! I went to menu, History, got rid of everything, Advanced, disabled 'hardware accelerator', re-start and I had BINGO !

Everything works as fast as before!

(What a menace and all this because of a very 'stupid' update by people who think they know everything and never checked the consequences)

Thanks for all the reply's and help.

hello, you are probably lacking a right graphics driver for your system. could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on... thank you

There is no help under my menu button and the advise is to refresh, which I have done many times.

hello, the help button should be an image with a (?) ...

ok thank you for following up. unfortunately your graphics card seems too old so that intel provided no drivers for that under windows 7.

in this case please perform the following steps which should bring back firefox to its normal pace: enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named layers.d3d11.disable-warp. double-click it and change its value to true and then restart the browser...

Hi Philip,

Thanks very much for your speedy reply but could you please tell me, before I do all this, why on earth and after many years without any problems, changing from XP to W 7, putting in extra memory and being very happy for about a year, now suddenly after the last firefox update my graphics card seems too old? Whereas my neighbours, in the same situation, have no problem at all? And, why everything works perfectly allright when I use Internet Explorer?

Thanks, Henr

Follow up,

The following happened yesterday as well: suddenly I couldn't get to my other gmail account, I 've got two. Which ever name I used, I still was directed to one and the same account. It seemed they were one and the same. I scanned my computer in two ways but no threads were found, I changed my password because I thought my account was hacked but now I exterience the same problems. All this after the last Firefox update!

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

Thanks for replying!

Every website that I visit via Firefox is not working correctly/ is slow. In Internet Explorer everything work perfectly allright.

Henr, the steps that cor-el posted were meant to address the login confusion at gmail & not the slowness. the later is caused by a bug that a new graphics rendering feature is causing in firefox 38 (especially in conjunction with the default microsoft driver - unfortunately in your situation there will be no other available as explained above). in order to fix the slowness you'll have to flip the preference mentioned before, which will disable the feature that introduced the regression.
