can not set a new tab to open google search as default
I have found these instructions: In case you need more of a step-by-step:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter your preferred page:
Page thumbnails (default) => about:newtab Blank tab => about:blank Built-in Firefox home page => about:home Any other page => full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked.
However as per the attached screen shot, I do not have a preference "browser.newtab.url"

Hi, from Firefox 41, you need to use an add-on like New Tab Override (browser.newtab.url replacement), to make changes to the New Tab page.
Once installed, open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A) > Extensions, then look for New Tab Override and click on Options to set your preference.
Note, if you only want the New Tab to be the same as your Home page, you can use the add-on New Tab Homepage instead.
You may then need to restart Firefox for any changes to take effect.

OPEN MOZILLA > NEW TAB > HOME BAR > SETTING > STATUP
I am sorry, but I am not sure how to do what you have indicated. What or how do I "open mozilla" I assume if I get that far the rest will be menu choices. If not, please explain further. Thanks for your assistance
