I can download my email on my smartphone but not on my computer. I keep getting messege that server is down what do I do?

I have not been able to get my email on my computer since Aug.22/16. I can get it on my phone but not computer. I get a pop up that says Thunderbird server is down. Why and what do I do to get it working again?

Did you talk to your email provider?
