Newly installed Thunderbird on laptop will send messages out.

When the system tries to save the message to the sent file it stalls and then when closed says message was not sent even though it was.

Solution?

thanks

Is this a pop or imap mail account?

If imap: Make sure you have subscribed to see the server 'Sent' folder which might be called 'Sent Mail' or 'Sent Items' etc. Right click on imap mail account and select 'Subscribe' to see list.

Note: if imap and gmail: Gmail will auto put Sent messages into the 'Sent Mail' folder. So you do not need to select it in the Account Settings. Otherwise you end up with duplicate copies and gmail already do a grand job of that by putting them into 'All Mail' as well.

Check the Account Settings are actually pointing to use that file. Right click on imap mail account and select 'Settings'.

  • Select 'Copies & Folders'

If imap gmail do not select, otherwise select:

  • Select 'Place a copy in'

If POP:

  • Select: 'Sent folder on mail account name'

If IMAP:

  • Select : 'Other' and choose the server Sent folder on imap mail account.
  • click on OK
