When I send a reply to a message or forward a message, the appropriate icon does not always appear in front of the subject in the subject column of the inbox for that message after the reply or forward was completed. The icon may even be there, but then goes away later.

This happened with one of the automatic updates in November when I sent in a question about it. I also am on IMAP but it was never a problem before.

This is the case if your account is IMAP and your mail server does not support the forward and reply flags.

Is your account IMAP?

Matt, I do have IMAP and have had it a long time. This problem has only started to happen recently as far as I can see. There are also other problems with Thunderbird that have only started more recently. I am wondering if I need to reinstall it, but am not sure how to do that safely. I use both W10 and Linux.

Who is your mail provider. Noting that GMail for one does not support the relevant forward reply flags.
