Experiencing a few problems with Thunderbird.

1. I attempted to change the settings of one of my email accounts from POP to IMAP. In the Incoming & Outgoing server settings, I changed the server address as specified by my ISP. Now, when attempting to check for mail on that account I get an error message indicating: "An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server imap.xxxx.xxxx.com responded:" There is no 'responded' message.

2. Now, when try to go back into the account settings on any of the 3 accounts I have set up, I get an error message indicating: "An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name." This error pops up when trying to access any of the Account Settings items. I have shut down Thunderbird and relaunched, as well as shut down the computer and rebooted. Neither have resolved the problem.

3. All of this started because I wanted to try to find a way to get my ISP's Bulk mail folder to show on my desktop. On my phone, I use K@ Mail. It includes a Bulk (Junk, Spam, whatever you want to call it) folder for messages that are filtered by the ISP on its own server. I have the standard Junk folder on the account which is set up when the account is set up. That folder is not capturing the messages that the ISP filters are marking as Bulk/Spam/Junk. The Bulk folder on my mobile email client is picking up those messages. Is there a way to set up a folder in Thunderbird on my desktop to capture those messages? I can see them if I log into the webmail client of my ISP, but I want to get them on my desktop.

Thoughts appreciated. Thank you.

You can't change a POP account to IMAP just by changing the server name:

You cannot simply change a pop into an imap. They are completely different. Pop downloads from server Inbox to pop mail account Inbox. There is no folder synchronising, the server Inbox is completely separate from pop mail account Inbox.

Imap sees a remote view of the folders on the server. Folders synchronise with same folders on server, so they are one and the same in effect.

You would have to create a new existing mail account for that email address except set it up as imap instead of pop.

Suggest you create a new Profile using Profile Manager.

Then add the email address as new existing mail account and make sure it is setup as imap.

I know the difference. I didn't know it wasn't possible to simply switch the account type.

No need to create a whole new profile. Just need to create a new account under the existing profile, set it up as IMAP, then port old messages to the new account.

With that done, the Bulk folder at the ISP end shows up in Thunderbird.
