Black screen on thunderbird search window (52.0.1 in Linux)

The search tab on top of Thunderbird email client, while typed with search string, shows black drop down list. This would be white in general.

I also could not upload a screen shot as pressing any key hides the drop down immediately.

Try to start Thunderbird in safe mode. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

"Shutter" and other such screen shot programs allow you to capture menus and so forth.

I see some oddities with menus in Thunderbird on Linux. Often there are radio buttons or checkboxes that don't show, so it's impossible to tell which option is selected. I wonder if your black menus are another symptom of issues with faulty rendering?
