Firefox stopped working now has "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022).
Firefox was working fine and has for years. A few days ago the message "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application" appears.
Computer is running Windows 7.
1. I have done a proper uninstall of AVG which previously seemed to cause a problem. No Change.
2. I renamed the "program files/mozilla firefox" directory to "oldmozillefirefox" Then did an install of the lastest firefox version (32 bit). No Change.
3. I am unable to start firefox in the safe mode. Same error.
4. I am unable to start any form of a profile editor even by using a command prompt. Same error.
5. For what it's worth the auto-updating for firefox was disabled. I don't know of any changes made to the system between firefox working and it not working.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi, as for renaming program files/mozilla firefox to old. That is not how to uninstall Firefox as that is not where your Profile or any settings are saved.
Please rename it back or delete it after : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer
Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 60.0.2 with a Full Version Installer
If still having issues will see about your Profile.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
If can not save a profile copy it out :
Thank you Pkshadow,
I tried what you said to do. I did a full install of Version 60 and it would not start and gave the same error message. I finally just installed Version 48 and that works. It seems any version after 48 gives me the error message.
Welcome.
Just a thought. you could stash away some where a copy of your profile or a backup as per my 1st post. Then uninstall Firefox with https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html Then try and install Firefox esr : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switch-to-firefox-extended-support-release-esr Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes.
As to why it will not take from version 48, have no idea. You could also try updating your way to 60.
