How can I restore my most recent bookmarks? It keeps restoring old bookmarks.

I followed the instructions and got the message: "Unable to process the backup file." I already checked my places.sqlite and followed those steps. When I try to restore the most recent bookmarks from the firefox backup, it will restore only very old versions. (Not the most recent bookmarks.) I really need my bookmarks! How can I restore them?

jscher2000 has a tool on his website to extract out your bookmarks and save them to an HTML-format bookmark export file. If you want to try it, here is the page:

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/bookbackreader.html

To open the bookmarkbackups folder in Finder, use the "Open in Finder" button in the first table on the Troubleshooting Information page, and double-click into bookmarkbackups where you should see several dated files. From there you can drag and drop onto the conversion tool.

To import the HTML file, see the steps in this article: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file.

What's your computer system and Firefox version?

Are you using sync?

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

Windows 7

Firefox Quantam 65.0.2

Results are below:

The database looks good. Do you still have the problem?

What about sync?

I'm not using sync; the problem is still happening. It won't restore the most current bookmarks.

Okay, so I converted them to an HTML file, but I wasn't selecting the "Import Bookmarks from HTML". (I was trying to do it from the "Import" and it said "Unsupported File Type.") Anyways, they are back! Thank you for much for your help!

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.
