Browser Highjack

I am a blogger and while doing some work in Firefox browser my browser automatically opens some unwanted pages. While doing some research in the profile setting, I found some codes in profile config. setting. I am keeping only one default browser " 43xkzuc9" but another one also there(c1z1xvoz). I suspect that may be the reason. Kindly somebody help me to resolve the issue. I am copy pasting the code found in the profile configuration setting below.

[Install308046B0AF4A39CB] Default=Profiles/43xkzuc9.default-release Locked=1

[Profile1] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/c1z1xvoz.default Default=1

[Profile0] Name=default-release IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/43xkzuc9.default-release

[General] StartWithLastProfile=1 Version=2

Thanks in advance,

Rajkumar

Hi Rajkumar, Your profile information looks usual. This thread might help explain better: Firefox create too much profiles. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1262122

In regard to opening unwanted pages, this could be caused by an add-on that you have installed or it could be caused by a malware infection on your computer.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Safety Scanner https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/ threat-protection/intelligence/safety-scanner-download

MalwareBytes Anti-Malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/premium/

Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/tdsskiller/

MalwareBytes AdwCleaner https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

ESET Online Scanner https://www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/

There are also extensions available to help protect against malware, such as:

Malwarebytes Browser Guard https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/malwarebytes/

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware

If that doesn't fix the issue, try running Firefox in it's Safe Mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode to see if the issue goes away. If it does, it's likely caused by an add-on, so you will need to use trial and error to determine the culprit.

Hope this helps.
