I've set the options so that I get a blank page whenever I launch Firefox or create a new tab. However, I would the Home button to take me to https://www.google.ca/ncr. Is there a setting for this?

Hello FoxyFirey,

The closest you'll be able to get to what you want (I think) is to set two pages as your homepage (one blank, and one that opens with Google) :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-set-the-home-page

Scroll down to the section :

"Set multiple pages as your home page"

(but you probably already knew that .... )

You should be able to set the Home page via about:preferences#home. You can also drag a Tab or link on the Home button to set this page as the Home page (you need to confirm this).

There is only one field for both home page and new windows. If I drag a tab to the home button, it populates that common field for home page and new windows. It looks like I can't have them be different.

A new window always opens with the homepage(s). If you do not want this to happen then use another way to open that homepage or to open a new window with a bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar. You can hold the Shift key and left-click a bookmark (about:blank) to open this link in a new window.

I think the answer to the originally posted question is "no".

I don't find bookmarks as convenient in recent versions. Before, I just pull down a menu, and my bookmarks were there. Now, I pull down the menu, select Bookmarks, and I get my recent bookmarks - all of them, regardless of which folder they're in. Usable, but not how I organized my bookmarks.

You can add the "Bookmarks Menu" button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list to the Navigation Toolbar via these steps:

  • click the bookshelf 57 library icon icon on the Navigation Toolbar or alternatively use the Library menu in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button New Fx Menu drop-down list
  • click Bookmarks
  • click "Bookmarking Tools", then click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
The Bookmark Menu button Bookmark Menu icon (star on tray) should appear on the Navigation Toolbar.

You can also drag the Bookmarks Menu button from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar

Thanks! I used:

http://www.google.ca/ncr|about:blank

Somehow, it knew that the 2nd one was desired for new windows, and the 1st one was desired for clicking the home button. It's like it's psychic.

SoooOOOooo cool. It really deserves its own thread with its own title.

Thanks! Why didn't I post this eons ago!

"separate" "home button=custom url" from "new window=blank" This has worked for years! I WANT Firefox to open with all blank windows but I WANT to be able to click the Home button for my 'home' URL

There is a browser.startup.blankWindow pref on the about:config page that defaults to false that you can set to true.

  • browser.startup.blankWindow = false|true
  • browser.startup.page
[0:blank; 1:home page; 2: last visited page; 3:restore previous session]
