Occasionally a new tab will open without my clicking on anything. Also most of the time when I do a search on google and click on a link, it does not open the link I click, it goes to a different search instead. I thought it might be malware and did a full scan with my mcafee. Nothing came up. Where in the registry should I check to see if something was added that shouldn't be there?

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs. You need to use all programs because each detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.
