Firefox, IE8 and Safari all won't load Gmail, Google, and certain other (random) sites. No problems with facebook or bbc news/iplayer.
Firefox, IE8 and Safari all won't load google sites (inc. Gmail) and certain other random sites. Facebook and BBC sites don't have a problem for some reason. Can only access Yahoo mail via Safari, and Safari says Google etc. won't load because there isn't a response from the server.

have the same problem - While eventually I can load gmail, it's very slow - when I click on various links, they don't load - I reinstalled firefox 3.6.6 to no avail - it didn't help - I'm not having a problem with IE Running windows xp
Me too, windows 7
Try uninstalling AVG. (Specifically the link scanner) Worked for me.
Rachelle, I'm in the same boat. Have you had any luck yet?
I have the same problem with gmail. the interest thing is when you switch to ie engine (via ie tab), everything is OK. At this point, if you switch back to Firefox, it works too.
Sorry for the delay, I'm abroad on holiday now and relying on net cafes to check my email...
I don't have AVG virus, so doubt this is the problem. In other news, my flatmate (who shares the same router connection) also says she's having problems with Google and certain other sites, so don't know if this means it's a router problem? I'm running Windows XP.
Frank - what's IE engine exactly? As I said, I've tried using IE normally and had exactly the same problems - am I missing a trick?
Rachelle,
I installed and used the IE tab 2 to switch to IE mode in FF.
Today, the problem disappeared suddenly. I have no idea why it cured itself.
Has anyone figured out a solution?
Try deleting cookies and cache:
1. Tools| Clear recent history
2. Time range to clear: Everything
3. If it isn't already selected, select Cookies and Cache
4. Clear now
Safe mode==
One of your add-ons might be the culprit. Try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode with all add-ons disabled. If that solves the problem, see Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and possibly Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems
Vundo Trojan==
The Vundo trojan can cause this. You can run and update the following free anti virus software:
1. Malwarebytes (Free version) - http://www.malwarebytes.org
2. Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org
3.Spyware Terminator - http://www.spywareterminator.com
