I updated to the most recent version and now the web address does not appear in the browser, and I also cannot go back or forward. the back and forward buttons are opaque, the web address line appears as blank. How can I switch this on again? Thanks

I recently updated to the newest version of firefox. The browser does not display the site address in the tool bar, its blank. Also, the back and forward buttons seem to have been disabled and I cant get them to work. Stop and reload also does not work. In the menu, the options are opaque. So the whole first row of back/forward, web address and stop/reload is disabled. How can I get it to work?

Open a new window (File > New Window) to see if that gives you a working location bar and toolbar buttons.
If that works then close the not working window and close and restart Firefox (File > Exit) to see if it still works.

No unfortunately that made no difference. A new page just appears completely blank, in fact its missing even more that the original - the bookmarks dont appear either!

Any other possibilities?

Thanks

You may have a corrupted file localstore.rdf in the Firefox Profile Folder

Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
