How can I show the URL scheme name (e.g. "http://" or "https://) in the firefox address bar?

After the latest firefox update (7.01), the URL scheme name (e.g. the "http://" part in a typical URL, like "http://www.google.com/") was removed from most of the URLs that I have input. The result of this is that the address bar shows only partial information about the URL (e.g. showing only "www.google.com/" and not the desired "http://www.google.com/").

Although this is redundant for the typical user, I would like to know (as a more advanced user) how to always display the full URL with scheme name included. If there is none, I suggest that you include an option to display this or to reinstate the scheme name altogether in the next update.

Users can revert to the old behavior by setting browser.urlbar.trimURLs to false in about:config.

To change this preference:

type about:config in the Location/URL bar and press Enter.
if you see a warning, accept (promise to be careful)
Filter: browser.urlbar.trimURLs
in lower panel, double-click that item to toggle value to false

Thank you for your assistance: the URL is no longer trimmed.

didn't work in 7 and not in 8 either. If they find it another one their cute little changes then at least give me the ability to copy the URL in the file menu or edit menu. I constantly need to resend a link or add it to a website and have to use the Send Link function and strip the address from the message and then cancel the message. Maybe someone can tell me what the purpose is to not have it display???
