How can I get rid of obnoxious NETFLIX ADS that take over & I can't delete them without shutting down?

When I log into certain sites (for instance people.com) an ad for NETFLIX MOVIES comes up. It won't delete easily & I usually have to shut down Firefox to get rid of it. This is most annoying! I NEVER want to see this ad again! If I wanted this movie service I would google it and sign up. Enough!!!
