Because searchqu has control of my browser, I can't find the Tools menu. I'd like to be able to reset the startup homepage and see if that might get rid of searchqu.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

Press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the menu bar. Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the menu bar or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide.

I already have Norton in my machine, and the link to Microsoft says not to have two spyware-hunting programs in your machine at the same time. But I will try calling that one company you recommended that apparently lets you speak to someone about their product. I'll ask if their product does something that Norton doesn't ... and can co-exist with Norton. I've been satisfied with Norton, but it hasn't been able to free my machine from the clutches of searchqu.

As for your directions on how to get my menu bar back up in order to find my tools menu, I did as you suggested but nothing happened. Keep in mind that I'm unable to get to my actual Firefox browser because of searchqu.

Norton is an anti-virus application, not an anti-malware program which is what Swarnava is recommending.

The link he provided is for an old Windows Defender page, here is the current Windows Defender Homepage - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/windows-defender

I wouldn't trust Norton will providing security for a case of toilet paper, their servers were breached in 2006 and it took them 5 years to figure out which software source code was stolen. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/01/symantec-source-code-hack/all/1?utm_source=feedburner
