When downloading pictures a new folder keeps getting created

Downloading a picture it keeps creating a new folder for the picture even though I try to save it in a pre-exisiting folder, have tried every combo in options and it still does that. What is strange too is that when I click on to save it to my picture folder only the folder in it appear, none of the pictures do, any ideas how to stop this, it just started up recently, haven't added any new programs or add-ons, am at a loss.

Where is that new folder being created?

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.
A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)

  • You can open the Firefox 4.0+ SafeMode by holding the Shft key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or use the Help menu item, click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled... while Firefox is running.

Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

When you figure out what is causing that, please let us know. It might help other user's who have that problem.

Tried that suggestion about being in safe mode, did that and am currently still in it yet the same problem is happening. Have a folder called pictures, when I try to download a picture to it a new sub folder called 'pictures' is being created in the pictures folder, like I mentioned it just started recently, clueless how to stop it.

EDIT: Couldn't solve the problem, only solution so I wouldn't waste hours doing the same things over and over again was to reset FF, able to download properly now, have none of my add-ons anymore, don't think they were the problem because have had them for many months and the downloading problem just started up a few days ago.

Alright, it happens in the Firefox SafeMode which indicates that isn't caused by an addon.

Are you deleting that Firefox created Pictures folder every time Firefox creates it?

If that is the case, why not just leave that folder there - It ain't hurting anything.

Firefox 12 plus versions automatically create that folder, when it is missing. Sorry, I haven't seen anything posted about how to change or eliminate that new "feature".
