Cannot Remove the DivX HiQ Extension

I have had the DivX HiQ & DivX Plus Web Player extensions for years. I don't remember how they even got there, but some time ago I noticed that they are no longer compatible but there is not way to remove them. In trying to remove another extension/add on I noticed these are still determinedly there. I have tried all the steps in the support articles. They either point to folders I don't have or files that aren't there. I even tried uninstalling firefox completely but despite thinking I had deleted all the so-called personal information, those extensions (ALL OF THEM) are still there. The extensions must be located somewhere that doesn't get deleted easily. How do I delete extensions?

Hello willgrady, see if there is a DivX folder in /Library/Application Support/firefox, and delete it.

thank you

Thank you for your response. There is no DivX folder.

See this thread:

after some investigating with the console, I discovered a folder stored in Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Mozilla/Extensions called "{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}". It contains two subfolders which are the divx hiq and divx HTML5 plugins. delete them both and you should be set to go. the divx webplayer can be removed by searching for "divx" on your Macintosh HD and deleting the "DivXBrowserPlugin.plugin" that comes up.

Thank you for your reply. The Extensions Folder you mention is empty. There are no files or folders in there. Nor when I search does any plugin come up.

See this earlier thread, in case it helps:

...and see http://www.divx.com/en/faq/view/supportFAQen170 which says,

Q: Can I uninstall DivX HiQ?

A: Yes, but DivX HiQ is part of the DivX Plus Web Player. They can be removed together through “Add/Remove Programs” on Windows, and using “Uninstall DivX for Mac” in the DivX applications folder on Mac OS X.

It might also help if you did the following, so that we can see exactly what Extensions are installed:

  • Click the Firefox Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information from the submenu.

Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.

  • At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
  • Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.
