I want Google to be my default search engine.

I tried to remove Ask.com from the list of search engines available. I find this search engine quite hopeless but it seems to be established as the default search engine.

So far as I am aware I followed the directions in Firefox Help. I selected Ask.com in the list and clicked Remove. Not only that search engine but the entire search engine space [cage, box, panel - whatever it is to be called] disappeared. How can I get it back? I now have no search engines at all available without going to their own websites.

If you remove an item from the toolbar then it is moved to the Customize palette. You can drag it back to the Navigation Toolbar.

  • "3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize

I did not remove an item from the toolbar.

I merely deleted one search engine from a list of search engines in a drop-down box. There were a number of others in the list that I did not delete including Google, Chrome, Yahoo and others.

But the entire facility has disappeared.

Do you still have the (Google) search bar on the Navigation Toolbar?
