Many issues in TB31 issues even https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/31.0/releasenotes/ has dead links.
The changes made in TB 31 make the product more difficult to use - from composition - address auto complete to accessing Exchange servers. Previous to TB 31 I had no problems TB - Exchange, now I have password issues, connection issues. TB 31 was updated in the middle of my work day. Prior to the update I had no issues, immediately following the update (and restart) problems began. We had no changes in Exchange configuration nor any updates / patches installed. Composition - addressing has become a nightmare. Previously auto-complete used the name / nickname now it uses any character in an address. Which necessitates (often) spelling out nearly or all of the entire address if there are common character strings in the address. This is particularly irksome where the name starts with a character string in the last quarter of the alphabet and the address contains a common string. For instance UNC IT 1) since the domain name contains unc almost the entire address book is "suggested" as you type UNC, 2) when you get to UNC IT about 50 names (in my address book) are suggested since unc is in the domain and it is a common string. Previously a few characters would either yield the correct suggestions or a short list. All in all, I find TB 31 to be far less user friendly than any previous version. Others may have a different experience.

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
- Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
- Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
- If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.
I appreciate the suggestions, I had already tried these as well as other approaches - including a new profile. It would appear that my problems relate to changes / updates / bug fixes related to the TB31 vs previous versions.
I have the same list of complaints. Most annoying is the lack of autocomplete capability in addresses, which now mimics the dysfunctional Microsoft Outlook approach (you must have used the address already before you can see it autocomplete, and even then it isn't necessarily going to work).
Moreover, when not maximized, the window sometimes can be dragged only if you precisely drag from the same level as the tabs for mail, address book, etc.
Overall, 31 is slow and prone to buggy behavior. I wish I had not permitted the update.
I have issues with Autocomplete just not auto-completing fast enough. If I tab or hit enter before the autocomplete list shows up, then my characters simply sit in the address field uncompleted, and I have to go back to the field, and purposely retype and wait for the autocomplete list to come up.
I am not the world's fastest typist, but typing in a short name like "ryan" and tabbing to the next field to type the next name on fast Core i7 machine with 16 GB should not be that slow.
Also, a lot of problems when sending emails and if I click off of the "Sending window" that has a progress bar, then TB hangs for a solid 30 seconds or so. I've also seen it go to 100% on the progress bar with a message "Sending complete", but it just hangs with TB unresponsive and unable to even redraw the windows.
This is the worst release that I've seen in a while, and TB is slow to address these issues. At 31.1.2, these problems still exist.
