I get e-mails about once a day asking that I stop sending mail to someone that I have never sent mail to. They are different people sending these, and apparently the e-mails that they receive are disturbing in the extreme

Someone is using your email address. There is nothing you can do about it now. They will get bored with you and move on.

You obviously want to do something. It could cause even more trouble contacting people yourself & most people would have difficulty checking email headers.

Change your email password to reduce the possibility someone is using your email account then deleting the spam. Report the problem to your email provider. They should at least be able to confirm such messages do not originate from your account. They my be able to stop messages & will be able to track down the origin of them.
