Video shutters at full screen.
Hello, I've been using Firefox since pretty much day one. I am a big Firefox fan, but this bug is causing me to re think it all.
My computer configuration is
Inter Xeon E5 1620 v3 processor 24GB DDR 4 RAM Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 (latest drivers installed) Windows 10 build 1803 x64
When switching to full screen, the video usually shutters, it is so annoying. To solve (not always), I have to close and re open firefox to free memory, but as you can see, memory is not my issue...I have a lot of memory.
Using GC browser works much better...I really don't want to switch to GC because I much prefer Firefox...but what can I do? This is getting too annoying, even for me.
Please assist...

Video shudders or stutters is usually a Video driver issue. Have you gone to other video sites to verify it's not a Video driver issue? So what site is that that your talking about with video issues?

Hi. Well like I said, when I use GC browser, it works fine.
The website is twitch but it happens on Youtube as well I think,
Ok, I used firefox 66.0.3 on YT and don't have such issues. Do you have adblockers or security software causing the problems? How was your firefox update? And have you disabled addons to see if those aren't causing problems.

Well be that as it may, I still suffer this issue, mostly on twitch.tv
Well then, I have no choice but to stop using Firefox, clearly you can't help. Its a shame.

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with Firefox and Twitch.
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.
You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.,) and then perform these steps:
- Click the menu button and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
- Select the General panel.
- Under Performance, uncheck Use recommended performance settings. Additional settings will be displayed.
- Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
- Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

Westend, I can give you an answer, it could be due to resource manager, where Firefox takes up 1-2 GB or RAM, which causes this glitches that occur only when I turn full screen (theater mode works fine) But since my PC is such a powerhorse with 24GB DDR4, this makes no sense.
Andrew, I will try disabling, but I doubt it will help, if anything, I should use the hardware acceleration with my GTX 1050.
Happens again, the common thing is that Firefox was open for a while, building up RAM usage to more than 1GB. Video starts to shutter, it is so annoying.

Thanks for responding back! Here are a few things we can try:
- Is your graphics driver up-to-date? Sometimes driver updates may be browser specific. You also also try rolling back to a previous driver if you updated it recently to see if it helps.
To check your graphics drivers:
- Click Start.
- Search for Device Manager, click the top result
- Expand the category "Display Adapters" and double-click on the graphics driver you have installed.
- Visit the drivers tab
- Try "update driver" or "roll back driver"
-- You may also want to consult your device manufacturer's website or graphic's manufacturer's website.
- Do you have any add-ons installed? It may be possible that add-ons may be conflicting with the performance of Firefox causing high RAM usage. Try disabling them one by one to see if that helps.
- Is this setup configured by an administrator? Certain settings/preferences may have been configured by your systems administrator for business purposes.
Lastly, have you tried a clean installation of Firefox?
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.
To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows: (Note: Check both folders.)
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Windows: (Note: Check both folders.)
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
