iOS Firefox 106.2 (21661) crashes when I attempt to open Bookmarks on my iPhone 14 Pro 16.1.1 ; otherwise seems to work fine.

I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling the Firefox app and removed / replaced all bookmarks within the app via sync – to no avail.

Please help!

Hi

I am sorry to hear that Firefox for iOS is crashing. I hope that we can help resolve this for you.

As a first step, close down many of the tabs that you have open to as few as possible. Does this help reduce the incidence of a crash?

If this does not help, open the iOS Settings app, find Firefox and select Clear History and Website Data. Does this help?

Failing that, we will need to look into this in more detail with some logs from inside your copy of Firefox for iOS:

  1. Launch Firefox.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Scroll down to Version and tap it several times.
  4. Scroll down and hit "Debug: copy log files to app container". This triggers the logs to be saved into the Documents folder.
  5. Open the Files App on your iOS device and navigate to Fennec > Logs. You can see the different logs files here, which you can export using the share menu from Apple to a desktop computer.
  6. Open the file and replace any email address with XXXXXXXXX - and keep a copy of this report.
  7. Copy and past the full report into https://paste.mozilla.org/, setting the two options at the top to Plain Text and Expire in one week.
  8. Select Paste Snippet on the right hand side, then copy and past the link into a reply to this thread.

I hope that this helps.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your detailed response!

I tried your instructions – to no avail.

So I'm including screenshots to show:

  • No option to clear Firefox History and Website Data under Settings > Firefox.
  • After the Debug / Copy logs function by tapping Version several times, there's no log in the Files folders.

Please advise.

Respectfully, Phil

I have reached out to our developers who have advised that this issue that you are seeing may have been fixed in the recently released Firefox for iOS 107. Can you try again with the new update?

Thank you, I saw the update recently (see attachment) and installed it - to no avail. The crashing continues. One thing I should mention is that it seems to not crash until I begin to scroll down the bookmarks list.

Just a note, another user was able to fix the issue by removing a problematic bookmark. You may want to check if you have a problematic link from your bookmark list.

Kiki,

Thank you for your response. Based on the info you shared, I went through all my bookmarks via my laptop browser. There were a few that needed updating (I edited those) and a few dead onesc(I deleted those)

Then I went to my iPhone and synced the bookmarks. After that, I opened my iOS Firefox bookmarks; when I attempted to scroll down, I encountered the same crash.

Respectfully, Phil

Hey Phil,

Thanks for trying. I wonder if this issue doesn't have to do with problematic bookmark afterall.

Regarding the crash log that Paul suggested above, you may need to look into your iPhone folder. From there, you'll find the Firefox folder, open it, and navigate to the Log folder from there. You may share the file that start with "browser" and "sync" and you just need to share the latest ones.

Would you mind trying again?

Hey Phil,

It turns out that what you sent wasn't a crash log. If you still can reproduce this issue, would you please help once again by following these steps?

  • Open the iOS Settings
  • Navigate to Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Analytics Data
  • Use the search function and tap in the application name (i.e. Firefox)
  • Select the desired log
  • You can share by clicking the share button at the top of the opened log
  • Copy and past the log to https://paste.mozilla.org/, setting the two options at the top to Plain Text and Expire in one week.
  • Select Paste Snippet on the right hand side, then copy and past the link into a reply to this thread.
