Here's my problem. The recent java update from apple broke a system at my university. Therefore, we need to go back to the old version of java on osx (10.6.8). I updated a "broken" system by copying all the java folders plus the java preferences and java visualvm files from a working computer. I mounted the broken computer in target mode and copied the files over from the working system. Then I logged into the broken system, repaired the disk permissions and tried to run web application. This is when I found the java plugin for firefox 13.0.1 was missing. It's not listed in the plugin add-ons section. Therefore, I'd like to copy or download the proper java plugin but 1) I can't find it and 2) don't know how to install it.

Looking on the web, I can't find accurate instructions for this situation. Several places suggest looking in the plugins folder in the contents of the FF app. There is no plugin folder. Even if there were, how do I get that specific plugin and install it?

The java preferences panel does have the correct OLD version of java that works for us (1.6.0_31) and they are checked but FF still shows the plugin is not installed when I go to the oracle app web page in question and the java plugin does not show up in the add-ons at all.

On Mac OS, plugins are installed to a common location, usually /Library/Internet Plugins for system-wide availability or to ~/Library/Internet Plugins for a specific user. Ref: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_plugins#Background

Does Java 1.6.0_31 work on Safari or another browser?
