Hi, I set up my own update server, and it is working fine with me, during testing the update process I tried the following scenario:

I installed Firefox 10.0.12 on my machine, and put the appropriate "update.xml" file on the server to upgrade it to version 12, and it has been done successfully. Then I put "update.xml" file to upgrade to version 20.0, but it does not work (stuck on Checking for Update).

In other hand, I tried the following: From Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 12.0 to Firefox 20.0, and it is work successfully. what is the different between two scenarios? is there a limitation when updating multiple times in the same ESR?

You can't switch the update channel.
So if you want to update an ESR version (10.0.12) then you need to update to another ESR version (17.0.5).
That should work.
Switching the update channel can only be done by installing a full version.

Firefox 17.0.x ESR:

Thank you cor-el for your reply... you means that i can not upgrade to version 20 ?? ok then what is the difference between the following upgrade process: Firefox 3.6 --> Firefox 12.0 --> Firefox 20.0 (that is works perfectly) and Firefox 10.0.12 --> Firefox 12.0 --> Firefox 20 (Not work from V.12 to V.20)?

I'm not sure how you managed to update a Firefox 10.0.12 ESR version to Firefox 12.
That shouldn't be possible because an update doesn't affect the channel-prefs.js file under normal conditions (not sure about a full update), but once the update channel has been changed then you should be able to update to Firefox 20 unless there are still prefs that haven't been changed/updated properly preventing this.
You could compare the prefs.js files in both situation to see what is happening.

I create appropriate Update.xml file to upgrade to version 12, i took the values from the following link http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/12.0-candidates/build1/win32/en-US/firefox-12.0.checksums

i think that Firefox don't allow multiple update for one release... e.g. Moving from 3.6 to 10 is valid then from 12 to 20 also valid, as i moved to another release, but 10, 12, 20 all in the same release... if you have more information please tell me , thank you again
