Not computer literate here. Recently Firefox wiped out everything. I used to be able to see and go to my favorite sites (located just above the page. I would like that back, how do I do it?

In case Firefox created a completely new settings folder, can you look for an older one in these two places:

(1) Desktop: "Old Firefox Data" - this folder is created when you use the Reset feature. Do you have this folder?

(2) Profiles folder: Copy the following and paste it into the search box on the Windows start menu and press Enter

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Do you have more than one folder here?

Don't have those files, for some reason Firefox dumped everything so I uninstalled it and downloaded again. The only thing in the menu bar is a line with an arrow at the top. Anytime I drag something to the bar it does not accept.

An arrow at the top?

If you tap the Alt key or F10, do you get the classic menu bar? If so, try using the View menu > Toolbars to turn on the Navigation Toolbar and Bookmarks Toolbar. You should be able to drag and drop to the Bookmarks Toolbar. To keep this menu bar permanently, choose View > Toolbars > Menu Bar.

If the Alt key or F10 doesn't do anything, your Firefox might be in full screen mode. the F11 function key switches between full screen and normal views, or you can slide the mouse pointer to the very top of the screen and right-click for a menu to exit full screen mode.

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.

  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar setup

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.
